Qorvis’s Tom Sharpe OBE wins Desmond Wettern Award for Best Writer at Maritime Media Awards

Qorvis Senior Advisor Tom Sharpe, OBE (Order of the British Empire), won the 2025 Desmond Wettern Award for Best Writer at the Maritime Media Awards, organized by the Maritime Foundation. Sharpe won the award for his regular column in The Telegraph, where he analyzes naval power, maritime security, missile and air defense systems, and the strategic implications of global military deployments.

Sharpe spent 27 years as a Royal Navy officer, commanding four different warships. These included the U.K.’s Ice Patrol Vessel, for which he was appointed OBE for his role in saving her during a flood. Over the course of his career, Sharpe was an anti-submarine commander for two U.S. carrier battle groups in the Persian Gulf and, closer to home, he played a key role in protecting the U.K.’s nuclear deterrent.

Sharpe has a BA (Hons) in Defence Studies and a MA in International Relations from King’s College, London. He resides in London and is a highly sought-after geopolitical analyst and strategic communications expert.
