Dykes is a graduate of Sewanee: The University of the South, where he studied Politics with concentrations in Spanish, Peace and Conflict, Global Institutions and Policies, and Law and Justice. In addition to graduating with distinction, he lettered all four years in football and baseball and was an All-Conference and All-Academic performer in both sports.
